ULTIMATELY the time takes us to the mid-year of 2014 coinciding with school holiday season in Bali (Indonesia). As the island of endless festivals, Bali never lacks of religious and art fiesta to see, even throughout the year.
Aside from offering the richness and beauty of nature, Bali also hosts around tens of temple festivals or piodalan every month. It can be observed on the Balinese calendar. It happens because there are many temples across the island, either the public temple, temple of profession, clan temple or territorial temple. On the other hand, the implementation of those temple festivals is based on solar year (354 days) and pawukon year (210 days).
In this issue, the newsletter will feature some cultural (art) festivals and event on the island. The leading extravaganza is the Bali Arts Festival for. It poses the culmination of the greatest art shows owned by respective county and municipality after a selection among their subdistricts through county art festival. The winners of the competition then represent the region to the Bali Arts Festival.
In mid-June, the annual event Bali Arts Festival will be held for nearly a month. The cultural parade marking the inauguration of the festival is customarily held at the Bajra Sandhi Monument, Renon. Apart from watching the presentation of various arts, visitors can see daily performance and permanent painting exhibition in the complex of the Denpasar Art Center. Uniquely, to pamper your artistic passion and appetite, it is also graced with the exhibition of local handicraft and Balinese culinary treasures.
Another festival is the Nusa Penida Festival showing up the tourism potentials owned by Nusa Penida, Klungkung. The festival does not only serve visitors with cultural performances but also introduction to the local uniqueness of nature.
Meanwhile, a tourism event held in June is the Bali and Beyond Travel Fair 2014 in Nusa Dua and Kuta. It aims to advance the tourism industry through various tourism-related business sessions. Some of the participants are travel agencies, resort & hotel chains, cruise operators, convention planners, venue operators and others.
